Buffett focusses on stocks and bonds. I would focus on land. It seems
to me that this is an excellent time to buy a piece of homestead land.
Try for abundant water and firewood trees. Go for low taxes, which
equate to minimal local bureaucracy, which means a high level of
freedom. Go for a climate with a good growing season. Don't be overly
concerned about soil quality; whatever is there can be made into good
garden soil through additions of organic materials, compost and animal
manure. If you must drive to employment, then miles to town are a
consideration.
Get all the acres you can.

I'm pretty sure it is less discomfiting to a dog than the shock
collars long in use.
