To gain citizenship in many countries, you have to renounce any other
citizenship you have. If you become a citizen of one of those countries,
both countries (U.S. and the new country of citizenship) consider you to no
longer be a U.S. citizen.

You never really lose U.S. citizenship unless you renounce or officially
pledge allegiance to another. Technically, U.S. does not recognize dual
citizenship, but many have anyway ....bobf
