I hosted 3 french students this year, and they were AMAZED at the coverage
of the French protests on tv here. One had protested himself in Paris a few
months ago. They said that the French TV has never shown the first minute of
the
protests and the newspapers don't report or just do so in the police blotter
area. They said the Govt has such firm controls on the media that aside from
the French who see the protests in person, the rest of the country is
oblivious. All three have had friends arrested and jailed in the protests,
and they
just disappeared for lengths of time up to months, with no contacts. They
had to stay in jail until the courts got around to seeing them, and were
just
kicked loose unceremoniously. It is really not a good situation over there.

No wonder we don't have more rebellion and get-off-the-couch revolts in this
country. I so admire how the French take to the streets, how they protest
and go on strike. If you're involved in an insurrection in the USA, it may
cost $10k or a long stay in jail.
