We have such a problem 'round here with metal thefts. Everything from copper
wire and copper tubing (from BNSF) to catalytic converters, and everything
in between. There are those of us out here who figure anyone in the
riverbed,
on a quad, with no lights on at two in the morning, is up to no good. We've
caught several of them, and held them (unpleasantly) until deputies arrived.
Our alfalfa farmers have awakened, on occasion, to discover that the guts of
their huge, rolling sprinkler systems have headed south. The guy that
invented those systems lives right down the road from me.
We (Property Owners Association, Chamber and CSD) have finally gotten 'The
Gummint" to pay attention, and now the local recyclers are getting into
trouble
for not documenting where all this stuff comes from.
Recently, our San Bernardino County Sheriffs did a sting operation - planted
copper wire and such next to the tracks, where it appeared that a BNSF
maintenance project was going on. Who did they catch? Two of my neighbors! Go
