I do not see anything wrong with one personal favorites. They could be
favorites for any number of reasons, maybe they were a fun read, maybe they
were informative, or maybe they caused one to think about and more closely
examine ones own position. Just because a particular author is on a list is
not a real issue (so much of modern political reporting is not on real
substantive issues). If the list were built of only those type authors
then that would be of concern. Personally I think reading much fiction such
as the bible is a waste of time.
I have no real list of favorite books because it would mostly be populated
with the books I have most recently read. Look at my journal for the last
several years for a list of what I have been reading. I tend to mostly
history and lately economics with an occasional science fiction thrown in
just to kill a little time.
