At the time of the Louisiana purchase the there were
only a few thousand population in French and Spoanish
speakers in Missouri, that was because there were only
a few thousand people in Missouri. By statehood that
few thousand was a very small percentage of the
population. From that point the incoming population
was overwhelmingly English speaking.

Are you saying that "if that usage is common in
Tennassee then it must be commen in Missouri" ?
