Hey all,
I bought a used Franklin Fireplace. It is cast iron on the top and
front, sheet steel on the back. Would have preferred all cast iron,
but this is what came to me.
Anyway, there is some soot on the outside back of it, where the sheet
steel meets the cast iron. There is a space there that had been sealed
off. Obviously there is some leakage there. I got some gasket material
and some stove cement to reseal this off, but want to clean the soot
off first. What's the best thing to use to clean the soot off? I need
to keep things as dry as possible so I don't make rust.
Thanks,
Rob - Va
