O.K., so I'm easily confused. Garbage goes into the landfill, so what
difference if the less than original goes into the landfill. Seems
to me
that is argument for argument's sake.
Ever been near a big-city landfill? They are now typically located
far from the city, so require lots of trucks burning lots of fuel,
producing lots of air pollution, not to mention reliance on Mideast oil.
Much, much less "garbage" is left after going through the thing. And
it produces a surplus of electricity that can be sold. And it
produces no air pollutants. And after ten years it produces pure profit.
