There was a tiny break in the weather this morning and DH was out adding
some additional railings to the split rail fence he put up to encourage the
dogs to slow down before they run the poor baby trees down in the "orchard"
half of our 3 acre "frontyard." Our neighbor to the north drove up and
wanted to know if we were missing some goats. We told him we weren't but
that we thought there was a guy with some down the hill and across the two
creeks. Later DH walked through the woods and over to the neighbors to see
if he'd found an owner for the goats. About 15 minutes after he returned
home, here come two Alpine/Nubian cross does. I guess the neighbor didn't
find an owner. <g>
At anyrate, I find it most strange because these two "girls" are obviously
someone's pets. They had collars on and their coats are short and shiny, so
they've been living the good life. It was too late to go looking (dark and
snowing), so we have two guests in the recently built A-frame chicken coop
that is waiting for some hens to call it home this spring.
Tomorrow morning we set out on a hunt to try and find the owner. We are
quite concerned because the guy we saw walking around over in the valley
with a couple of goats was elderly and goats that are pets are generally not
wanderers. They like their creature comforts and the middle of bad weather
and a snow storm isn't something you find goats out wandering in.
So, everyone cross their fingers that the owner is o.k. and maybe out of
town or something!
