Every homesteader does that with something. I'm stuborn about the carrots. True that carrots are cheap and not all that bad from the store, but a body can't have carrots getting the better of them.
This past year I grew a few beds of wheat and barley just because it had been several years since I'd done so and I didn't want the experience to fade too far away. The younger children had never seen it done. It was only enough for a few loaves of bread and about two gallons of beer, and like Gene's carrots, I'd do it if I had to, but as long as barley and wheat are for sale cheaply, I'm going to buy them.
