This has been sitting in my inbox all day. Gosh, Gene, I don't know
what to say....
Surely I am due some kind of award for creating such a condition.
I believe we have general commonality of forest types but you have
the advantage. You have been here and I have not been there. The
Ozarks where I live is of mixed hardwoods, primarily oak and hickory.
Heartwood fortunately also has more Southern Shortleaf pine than is
typical of the greater area. An area of about thirty acres northwest
of the house burned about twenty-some years ago due to caretaker
ignorance. That area lost most of the oaks and is predominately pine.
My north-facing slopes are oak-hickory, the south-facing are
oak-pine. There is no evidence of fire in the other hundred acres.
Btw, I occasionally find a tree that has been struck by lightning.
The forest is flourishing.
