Anyway, I was wondering......if anyone here has done this or got any tips
for me. Is there more here to consider? Coming from Florida, all the
freezing pipes and stuff is making me think that there may be some things
I can do now to make that better.
Rob, talk to locals on whether you should install insulation.
As for laying the brick, measure from the top of your footing to the bottom
of the home, then calculate the number of courses plus mortar joint
thickness. You can adjust that joint thickness to make a perfect fit at the
top when you squish in the last mortar from both inside and outside.
I've not done this but it seems to me a good idea to have a termite shield
between the bottom of the home and the top of the brick wall. I would also
install interior piers before building the wall.
