http://www.myownbusiness.org/s1/ (website covering a lot of aspects of
choosing, planning, starting, operating a home business.
With very little capital, in a small manufacturing business, consider
jobbing out EVERYTHING except handling the incoming, outgoing money,
i.e. component manufacture, assembly, packing, shipping.
As an alternative, look at a Taiwan, Korean, Chinese trade catalog, pick
a product that has merit, and has no distribution in the U.S---import a
few to test for quality ad saleability. It will usually take a year of
correspondence with your supplier to get to the point where it is safe
to expand your operation---and you will have to learn all about letters
of credit, import brokers who handle your paperwork, and arrange
transport from port of entry to your warehouse. You will of course have
to set up a website with secure payment to your credit card merchant
account so you have your money in full before or concurrent with
shipment of merchandise to your customers.
