I've been reading the replies but haven't seentvoivozhd---insulated and refrigerated shipping containers are very numerous, but of course not as numerous or as cheap as standard containers. I have not seen any roofs on any containers that are not sheet steel or sheet aluminum, strong enough to stack if required. No overhang or air-wash roof which could be a good idea in a hot climate, providing it was well-anchored against wind. You could use vegetation on an arched-trellis, supporting fast-growing plants like hops
anything about "insulated" or "refrigerated" ...
as for the roof "weakness", since the rest of the
thing seems to be steel plate, why not just
weld on a "top" the same way ?
The berming idea has become very appealing
to me - now I envision this 'contraption' set
into a nice slope with a 'green roof' - invisible
from the air and from at least three sides ....
With plenty of (draped to exclude when desired)
mirrors inside to reflect natural light and a
radiantly heated slab (wood-fired boiler ?) out front with openings for plantings and a horizontally telescoping arbor over it in mild-
winter zones one could even have citrus outside the front door - although additional
panels might be necessary, along the lines of Japan's shoji doors, made of ?plexiglas? for protection from prevailing winds ...
