Regarding social problems and solutions, I can be pretty hard-nosed about
adults who have created their lives and are responsible for the results.
But when children are involved, as they often are, I relent. We do so many
things based on ideology that hurt people and weaken our country. For
instance, putting fathers and mothers in jail for non-violent drug use
essentially orphans children, with high attendant and subsequent costs to
society. Seems to me that the richest country on earth could spend more on
helping people like those in this article. We urge our women to have
children and then we abandon them. Ahh, what's the use? It's all about
power and making rich friends richer.
