Raising Chickens Sustainably Thursday, November 30, 6:30-8:30pm @CCE-Tompkins Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca, NY Learn how Sean and Sasha of Edible Acres raise their chickens for almost no cost. Inspired by the Vermont Composting Company which uses chickens to generate tremendous amounts of compost, they source local food
scraps, barter for whole grains, and collect leaf bags and wood chips to create multiple wheelbarrow loads of compost per week while raising 50 chickens in their front yard. The chickens also provide ample eggs and meat for the table and for bartering. Their
techniques and concepts easily can be scaled up or down to suit a backyard chicken operation. Cost: $5-$10/person self-determined sliding scale; pay what you can afford. Register online at ccetompkins.org/events or call (607) 272-2292 to register by phone.
