Hi Everyone, I've just heard the sad news that Ludgate's, a wonderful locally-owned grocer, is closing down! Having recently moved from downtown to Hanshaw Road, within biking distance to the store, we have come to treasure this shop for its wonderful selection, friendly staff and general awesomeness. So I'm wondering if there is a scenario in which the store could be saved by becoming a cooperative, similar to what the community was able to do for Buffalo Street Books not that long ago. Perhaps it is too late in the game to suggest such a strategy, but me and my partner Ari would definitely be able to invest a couple hundred dollars to save a wonderful place that fills an important niche in the economy by providing lots of healthy, organic and vegan food options to folks who live up on the hill.
