Yea, my main issue is the term "emphasis."  It just seems like a lazy choice of words, especially since the cognate acc. can function in several other ways.  Has anyone written a thorough essay on cognate accusatives?

Dear Chris,

I wonder if what is happening is confusion of grammatical terms with interpretation. A Cognate Accusative is just that an Accusative having the same root as the verb. PERIOD. The rest is interpretation as to whether or not it is the Direct Object, etc. That is function. Now, lest hope I am not confusing matters even more(?). :))))
