Thanks for calling my attention to this article. Just to clarify, I do
believe in creation ex nihilo; but I don't think it is being taught in
Genesis 1. Rather, the chapter conforms to the other ANE creation accounts
which start with an already existing chaos. I haven't read anything else
by Copan, though I'm aware of his writings, and I think we would probably
agree on a lot of stuff. But he only paid very scant attention to Gen 1 in
the article, and didn't address any of the reasons as to why the
translations differ in how they render the first three verses. Hebrew
Bible is not his bailiwick.
