It is a member of the root family SB, SP, ZB, ZP and we have from it:
עשב ESEB, 'grass'; אזוב EZOB (practically ESOB), 'moss,
hyssop' (1Ki 5:13);
סעיף SAIP, 'branch', (Is. 27;10) and סוף SUP, 'rushes'', (Is.
19:6).
From Aramaic we have the useful סיב SIYB, 'fiber' and זיף ZIYP,
'bristle'.
