Subject: [b-hebrew] suffixes of geographical locations
Date: Fri, 4 Mar 2011 13:40:48 -0500
Greetings,
I've noticed for some time that many places names/regions in the Land of
Israel end with either -ahn or -on.
So we have Golan, Bashan, Emek Dotan and we have Shomron, Sheemron, Xoron,
Sharon, Eglon, Giv'on, Beit Dagon, Xetzron, Avdon.
Were 'ahn' and 'on' suffixes meant to be geographical identifiers?
