The JPS translates 2 Samuel 23:3 from 1917 says "The G-d of Israel said, the
Rock of Israel spoke to me, "Ruler over men shall be the righteous, even he
that rules in the fear of G-d." Other translations also sound like that.
Has anyone tried this idea? "The G-d of Israel said to me a word, 'the Rock
of Israel rules over man, a righteous man is ruler of the fear of G-d' ." I
don't know if "ruler of the fear of G-d" needs a bet before the word "fear"
because Psalm 105:20 and Isaiah 16:1 don't use the letter bet after "ruler"
to say to rule over something.
