In this discussion, you leave off an important item: one of the sons of
Canaan mentioned in Genesis 10:15–19 was named XT חת whose descendants would
be named XTY according to Hebrew nomenclature. You are working from the
presupposition that “Hittite” necessarily refers to the Indo-European people
that invaded modern Turkey, but this linguistic clue calls that
presupposition into question. Rather the XTY in the Bible most likely refers
to the descendants of XT son of KN(N. Other descendants of Canaan who lived
in the land of Canaan included the Jebusites, Hivites, Girgashites, and so
forth, all of which could be congregated under the name Canaanite.
