Dear Members,
We are aware that the tone of some of the recent discussions have been
disturbing to many of you, and we appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
Since the inception of this list, we have always attempted to encourage free
discussion and have avoided any censorship of ideas. We acknowledge that
professional scholars as well as non-professional all have much to contribute
to the study of the Hebrew language in its biblical context. We have also
always allowed discussion to "wander" from the strictly linguistic and to
include historical and literary aspects of the biblical text as well, as we
understand that language cannot be studied without an understanding of its
wider context. All of this still holds true. However in light of recent
activity on the list, we will be keeping a slightly tighter grip on the
reins, and will be more active in curtailing threads that seem to be going
nowhere or that seem to be degrading into shouting matches. We hope that all
members will practice self-control and not force us to take stronger measures.
