Hi Rolf,
I see that you avoided the question and instead restated your basic
position. Like I said, the problem I have with your approach is when we
get down to the details of the text -- wayyomer being the case in point
I raised here. Please stick with the topic of this thread, namely
showing how wayyomer can be construed imperfectively. Can you
demonstrate this for those of us who cannot see how this is possible? If
it is unable to be demonstrated, what can't it be?

(Ps. By the way, I think it is inaccurate to claim that "It has been
argued that WAYYIQTOL came from a short Ugaritic preterit (YAQTUL) in
contrast with the longer (YAQTULU)." This is a misrepresentation. I
think it is more accurate to say that it has been argued that wayyiqtol
came from a short proto-Semitic prefix verb yaqtul in contrast with a
longer prefix verb qaqtulu. I am unaware of anyone claiming that the BH
verb forms derive from Ugaritic.)
