The experimental version is served through a technique called "content
negotiation". Users with modern browsers, such as Firefox 2.0.0.4, will
automatically receive compressed versions of files from the site. These
files will be automatically decompressed by the browser. The number of
bytes downloaded is approximately 25% of those required in the current
version. Operation is transparent to the viewer and requires no changes
to the browser settings.
The actual site download time depends on the capabilities of the
viewer's Internet connection and computer. Viewers with poor Internet
connections and fast processors will see the greatest improvement, those
with high speed Internet connections may not notice a change at all.
Your observations are solicited.
