What is the function of et (aleph tav) when it follows Elohim (as in
Gen. 1:1, 4, 7, etc.)? Some commentators say it serves as a grammatical
marker for a direct object, but is this usage consistent throughout the
Torah?

P.S. Forgive me if this has come up before. I didn't check the archives
yet.
