Dear Karen,
I beg pardon if I am ignorant, however, my question is about the
appropriate usage/meaning of the word ECHAD in Deut. 6:4.
Does this mean the number "one" or the concept of "unity". Please,
explain why.
HH: It means "one," but the word can refer to a complex oneness, a
"whole". It can, for example, describe a military troop (2 Sam 2:25)
or a people (Gen 11:6).
