Yes, you are right that he would disagree. He is one of those I
summarized by writing: "Unfortunately, the linguistic evaluation has
been burdened by claims far exceeding what it can actually accomplish,
but the research is still worth reading. "
My point is that linguistic-typology is a more stable method than the
subjectivity of, say, form criticism (which has been mentioned in this
discussion). But, at the end of the day, even this doesn't narrow the
range of possible compositional dates very much.
