dear b-haverim,
i have pretty good data indicating that sin does not pattern with the
sibilants, especially plain /s/, but rather with the sonorants. i was
wondering what the conventional wisdom is these days: is sin considered
originally a voiceless lateral? i don't know how the masoretes would
maintain such a distinction.... ;-)
