Subject: The Hebrew word for creative work, Melachah
Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 07:51:15 -0400
I read recently that the Hebrew word "melachah" is only used in three ways
in the Torah... (1) to describe the work of creation that God did on the
first six days, (2) to describe the work required in the building of the
tabernacle in Exodus 35, and (3) to describe the work that the Jews were to
abstain from on the Sabbath; ie, On the Seventh Day you shall do no
"melachah".
Since I don't have access to some of the resources that you guys do, I was
hoping that you could help me with at few questions I have.
(1) In regard to the information posted above, is what I have read about
the word "melachah" true?
(2) Is the word used elsewhere in the Tanach or in any other ancient Hebrew
literature that you guys might be familiar with?
Thanks for your help!
Joe
