The Hebrew text of Ruth has clear indications that it is a reminisce of a
bygone era. The
explanation of certain old customs, the ambiguous name of the closest
kinsman-redeemer,
and the particular usage of perfect verbs clearly demonstrate that Ruth was
written a good
deal later than the time it purports to portray. It has the quality of a good
old
folk-tale and that the book we now have in our Hebrew Bibles was kind of like
the script
for retelling it.
