Perhaps someone can explain why Hebron is rendered as el-Khalil on later maps
while the
Palestine Exploration Fund Map of 1878 (sheet xxi, London) renders it as
el-Khulil. How
did "u" come to be later rendered as "a" ? Are both renderings correct or is
the 1878
rendering a mistake ? Thanks,
