That's intransitive *in the qal stem*. Grounds: that it does not need ,
nor can it take a direct object. In 1 Ki 1:40 the folks are not causing
great joy to rejoice as in, say Psa 19:9's piel participle _mesamxey lev_
where the statutes cause the heart to rejoice. Whatever simxah gedolah is
in 1 Ki 1:40, I don't think it's a direct object. There are other
perfectly reasonable explanations.
