I forgot to add---
Lets's look at this as a mythical re-creation of a contest between Moses
and non-Yahwistic priests, not as an event which occurred in the "real"
world and which works "logically." Myth has its own logic and reality.
It may be a type scene, which, in this case, is an illustration of the
way in which ancient gods battled for power on the priestly level. The
contest between Elijah and the priests of Baal may be a similar type
scene....hmmmm.
