greetings everyone,
happy first day of spring!  how nice!  celebrate the convenience of weather as a neutral conversation topic by tuning in to WXYC 89.3 fm this week - we've got some cool specialty programming on the radar:

These days anyone w/ a PC can torrent a DAW, make beats, then upload them to the ~internet~, but never fear! The Inside Track is bringing the best in creativity and innovation with Rae Sremmurd's SremmLife. (Side note, Sremmurd will be performing with local rapper Well$ at CUAB's Spring Concert). And folks, the beats are only half the appeal - Sreummurd’s playfully energetic-yet-spacey punchline/metaphorical flows make for bouncy songs that can be played over and over again and they never really get old.  Tune in at 9pm tonight!

On tonight's NEW SCIENCE EXPERIENCE local dj PLAYPLAY will be spinning from ten to midnight tonight. Tune in some serious juke, vogue house, and footwork!

This week on Hell or High Water, we will be featuring the music of the Bailes Brothers. Born and reared just outside Charleston, WV, the Bailes Brothers actually consisted of four brothers (Kyle, Johnnie, Walter, and Homer), but they rarely all played together. The Bailes Brothers became the first musicians from West Virginia to play as apart of the Grand Ole Opry. Tune in to hear the soaring vocal harmonies only familial ties can create. Sunday from 1pm-2pm

This Sunday, Broken Music reviews the recordings of Californian sound artist Joe Colley. Active for over two decades, Colley has explored the transformative properties of audio phenomena through sound installations, live performances, and a number of recordings. Early recordings were issued under the Crawl Unit moniker, and were driving by a fascination with unstable systems of audio feedback. Feedback is an ongoing element in Colley's current work, along with the use of tape systems and amplified natural phenomena. Tune in at 2 pm.

Tune in this week to Sports Rap at 9 p.m. because it's really our time to shine. It's basketball season, y'all. We have so much to talk about. UNC barely squeaking by Harvard, UNC's game against Arizona is tomorrow, Duke's inevitable upcoming loss to Robert Morris. Plus there's the rest of tournament! And also, holy shit, Kevin Durant is being shut down for the season! What?! Ahhhhh. It'll be a boss show.

Monday night, listen your blues away on the Outside Track and pine for the Romantic South with Georgia native turned Durhamite Jake X Fussell. Fussellgrew up with a folklorist father who took him along on the fieldwork excursions around the Southern United States where he learned folk tunes first hand from iconic folk and blues figures including George Daniel, Steve Mann, and Etta Baker.  This album is a collection of traditional folk and blues songs re-worked in Jake’s own straightforward yet emotional style that harkens back to the Southern storytelling, with a balance between reverence for struggle portrayed in the tunes and a light, playful aura of hope and a sense of connection to the root of the music <333 feel the love, y’all.
