hey there everyone,
hope we're all getting along okay. summer is pretty hot, huh? my mom likes to remind me that the 4th of July is the halfway point of the summer, which is always a little bit of a killjoy! let's enjoy our descents to normalcy with some refreshing radio programming this week on WXYC 89.3 fm:

This week on Hell or High Water, music from the Ozark Mountains will be featured with a focus on the Beaucoup Bottom Boys. These often forgotten hills have long lived in the shadows, for they are sandwiched between the larger Appalachians and Rockies; however, the hollars of this lesser thought of mountain chain have produced some jaw dropping ditties. Located in a more central location than the Appalachians, the tones and sounds of the Ozarks have influences from all over the map. Tune in to hear some rich music from these oft-forgotten hills. Sunday at 1!

Settle down this Sunday at 2pm for an hour of Broken Music featuring Australian cellist and sound artist Anthea Caddy. Using amplified cello as her primary source, Caddy's art and practice explores spatio-temporal elements of sounds. She incorporates electro-acoustic and recorded sound in her performance, enhancing and manipulating sound architecture and perceptions of time. Best enjoyed in dark spaces so find a nice cool place to tune in and beat the summer heat!

Come sit on LeBron's lawn with us 9 p.m. Sunday on Sports Rap! We'll discuss LeBron's decision to return to the Cavs, other free agency news, the World Cup, our first glimpses of NBA rookies in Summer League, and we'll beg P.J. to stop fucking up. It'll be fun!

Monday gets weird with the Outside Track at 9 PM.  Tune in this week to hear a brand new one from Mayaleen. Lebanese musicians Raed Yassin, Charbel Haber, and Khaled Yassine make up the avant-garde trio Malayeen. For their debut release the group took inspiration from the movie star and prominent Egyptian guitarist Omar Khorshid – deconstructing and reworking his innovative and distinctive style of Arabic music into seven new compositions of a distinctly experimental modern style. The musicians are swift and limber; each track has a uniquely dynamic sonic drive as the musicians seamlessly interlock styles, building on intoxicating trance grooves inspired by belly dancing with a hazily rippling swath of avant-garde electronic manipulation.  Don’t miss it!
