Happy Friday friends.  We just hired SEVENTEEN NEW DJS. Very exciting!  Very fun.  Be sure to tune in between the hours of 3-8 AM to hear them find their way through the radio waves.  Otherwise, enjoy our weekly programming for the coming days!

Tonight starting at 9 PM tune in for a super special 3 hours of radio on WXYC!  From 9-Midnight DJs Caroline, JJ, and Grant will be spinning tunes exclusively from artists featured at this year’s Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh.  We will be giving our thoughts on artists we especially love, sharing experiences from previous Hopscotch Festivals, and generally gushing about this killer event.  Rock, Drone, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Experimental, Folk, Rock.  Tune in!

This week on Hell or High Water, Gina B will be playing the music of Kinky Friedman, a Jewish Texas country singer and humorist.  Prepare to laugh and/or be shocked!  One of Friedman's most famous numbers, "They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore" is about beating up a drunken white racist.  However, lest you think Kinky's politics are easily pigeon-holed, another song, "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed," lampoons feminism and caused a huge, concert-ending fight at a show in New York.  Regardless of your views, I encourage you to tune in at 2pm on Sunday for this unique hour of radio!

This Sunday, Broken Music concludes its August series on Belgian experimental music by looking at works produced at the Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music in Ghent. 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the IPEM. Founded by Belgian Radio and Television and the State University of Ghent, the IPEM's electronic workshop was created as both a creative studio and a research institution. Over the hour, we'll hear works from the IPEM's first director Louis de Meester, along with David Van de Woestijne, Stefan Beyst, Helmut Lachenmann, Peter Beyls, Raoul De Smet, and several others. Tune in at 2pm.

Tune in Sunday night at 8 PM to welcome your new Backyard BBQ host Lincoln.  Lincoln has been around in the Triangle music scene for longer than I have been alive, so give him a warm welcome.  Join Lincoln to hear some records from local bands who will be performing at next week’s Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh.  Check it out!

Tune in at 5 PM on Sunday to hear Fruit Smoothie!  This week, Rachel explores local art through an interesting medium: The record label.  Rachel will be in the studio with Brendan from the local record label Paradise of Bachelors to talk about what a record label does, what it means for the community, and what kind of fruit smoothie Brendan likes.

On Sports Rap this week it's all football! We'll be reviewing Thursday's game and looking ahead, talking about the NFL's concussion deal and Johnny Manziel's suspension. Join us at 9 PM on Sunday and call in! Slam Dunk!

At 9 pm on Monday night on the Outside Track we'll be exploring Julianna Barwick's new release, Nepenthe, out now on Dead Oceans. Barwick's third full-length LP (not including her 2011 collaboration with Ikue Mori) finds her continuing to explore her own voice's harmonic potential in echoing, highly resonant atmospheres.
