Look at that, it’s the last week of Summer Programming here at WXYC.  Next time I email y’all / It will be Fall.  Summer’s swan song:

Tune in at 9 pm for this week's Inside Track. Tonight we'll be propelling you through Friday evening with the original soundtrack to the short film Six Day Run. Finnish experimental/Kraut rockers Circle recorded this album in the spirit of one of the most extreme individual endurance sports, in which runners go with as little sleep as possible to log as many miles as they can over the course of a six day run.

This week on Hell or High Water, Gina B will be playing the Short Sisters' release Live From Four States.  The Short Sisters "have been singing and performing together since 1979. Though they are not really sisters, and not particularly short, they do sound like sisters and share a delight in harmony. The songs chosen by the trio tell stories and paint pictures, conveying strong visual images through music. They favor a capella arrangements but also accompany themselves with guitar, autoharp and banjo."  Tune in on Sunday at 1pm!

This Sunday, Broken Music explores the works of Belgian composer Karel Goeyvaerts. A student of Darius Milhaud and Olivier Messiaen, Goeyvaerts' works for instruments and electronics are often considered a bridge between serialism and minimalism, citing Messiaen and Webern as his greatest inspirations. Goeyvaerts accepted a position as producer at the Institute of Psycoacoustics and Electronic Music in Ghent. Tune in at 2pm.

Tune in to The Backyard BBQ Sunday at 8 PM to get some ~insider information~ on the excellent upcoming Hopscotch Music Festival.  Harrison will be in the station with Hopscotch higher-ups Greg Lowenhagen and Becky Mormino.  Listen in for interviews with the festival organizers and previews of bands playing at this year’s festival.

On Sports Rap this week hosts Reilly F and Sarah H will be joined by DJ, linguist, and quiz-bowl-wiz Peter S.  They'll try to take a look at sports from a linguistics perspective while also discussing quiz bowl.  And in honor of Dean Smith's Presidential Medal of Freedom, the gang will listen back to some of a 1987 interview Coach Smith did live on WXYC.  If that's not enough, you can also cross your fingers for another installment of Let's Talk About the TV Show Coach.

Then on Monday night at 9 PM, catch the Outside Track, which will be Impressions of Po Music  by Ken Vandermark's Topology Nonet feat. Joe McPhee. Vandermark, McPhee, and eight Chicago musicians (including Jason Adasiewicz on vibraphone) serve up a tribute to McPhee's erstwhile ensemble. You can catch the Vandermark & Tim Daisy duo this September in Raleigh at Hopscotch.

Things take a turn for the thrilling this week on Should Does Does Radio as we talk with some of the brains behind new Chapel Hill-based publication Thrill City. We'll be looking at the perilous intersection between sports, art, and culture. Listen if you dare. Wednesday night at 9 PM.
