We all agree, July was the worst month that anyone has experienced here at WXYC, so let's put this awful time to death with some exciting radio!

This Friday
on the Inside Track, get ready to hear Dalhous' debut full-length, An Ambassador For Liang. This Edinburgh duo explores "dreamlike but treacherous terrain" with a tapestry of processed acoustic instrumentation, dubwise bass, and stacked percussion.

This week on Hell or High Water, Gina B will be playing the 1998 release The McGarrigle Hour which features Kate and Anna McGarrigle and a variety of their family and friends, including Loudon Wainright III (who is from Chapel Hill!), Rufus and Martha Wainright, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and more.  The album is primarily a folk album, with a variety of covers and original material.  According to Paul Busch of FasterLouder: Australia's online music community (!), "All these re-creations of old standard songs make you want to snuggle up by the fireplace with a glass of red and pretend you are listening to the wireless. The down home feel, the love, and the integrity leave you with warmth that is not easy to wash away."

Tune in Sunday afternoon to Broken Music to enjoy the works of American composer Lois V Vierk. Vierk's works employ an imaginative blend of sliding glissandos and a concept she calls "exponential structure".  She often writes for chamber ensembles, often featuring multiples of the same instrument. Vierk traces her unique approach to music to her ethnomusicology studies at UCLA, where she focused extensively on Japanesegagaku music, as well as her work at Cal Arts in composition and New Music. Tune in at 2pm.

Tune into the 4RuiT Sm∞thie Sunday at 5pm to hear Curt Cloninger of lab404, prolific first gen indie rock dad of internet art and modern day web alchemist, respond to rude and intrusive questions about religion, his hacking days, the mystical zone between language and oblivion, and what to do if the bar at the finish line of the Situationist river tubing venture he's organizing this Sunday on Asheville's French Broad closes before you drift to shore.

Harrison is back on the Backyard BBQ at 8 PM.  Tune in to listen to music from artists from the surrounding lands and Harrison’s really inviting voice.

On this week's Sports Rap Sunday at 9 join coordinator Reilly F and his co-host Sarah H as they talk with local E-sports personality Stirling Little about the fighting games season, the upcoming Dota 2 tournament, and his own game Carrboro Quest.  They'll also be breaking down the week in sports news, taking callers, and recounting their trip to the Greater NC ProAm Basketball League. Oh, and be sure to follow Sports Rap on Twitter @dunksbutts to stay in-the-know!

Tune in on Monday for the Outside Track, which will be Gaspar Claus' Jo Ha Kyo. This French cellist fronts an audacious ensemble of 10 Japanese musicians, among them Keiji Haino, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Otomo Yoshihide. The ensemble's string instruments sound off into a chaotic space of drone, noise, and corrupted vocalizations.
