A quick Google search informs me that the NBA Finals are underway this week; let WXYC create for you a fitting soundscape during this exciting time.  This week:

Friday’s got the Inside Track at 9 PM, this week: Harafinso: Bollywood Inspired Film Music >From Hausa Nigeria (Sahelsounds & Little Axe), a compilation of contemporary Hausa film music, which comes from Nigeria's popular film industry - Kannywood. You might hear elements of the Hindi Bollywood film music; and that's because the presence of Bollywood films in Nigeria's Hausa-language dominated capital, Kano, predates the country's film industry.

On this week's Hell or High Water on Sunday at 1 PM Andrew N. will be playing selections from the compilation Songs for Political Action: Folkmusic, Topical Songs, and the American Left 1926-1953 for all of our pinko commie leftist comrades. Let's get together and organize and listen to music, baby, and let's set ourselves free!

Next up at 2, Broken Music visits the works of Polish composer Bohdan Mazurek. Mazurek was an early proponent of the Polish Radio Experimental Studio (PRES), arriving first as a recording engineer and soon utilizing the studio for his own compositions. While at PRES, Mazurek produced works for performance and film that made imaginative use of traditional instruments and location recordings, while also demonstrating a unique studio prowess.

Tune in on Sunday at 5 PM to catch WXYC Reports. Entrepreneurship. Innovation. Leadership. Personal Branding. This week in WXYC Reports we take a look at some of the buzz words that define much of our culture's ideals and accomplishments. Stories from around campus, including young leaders and minor celebrities.

Sunday night at 8 PM Backyard BBQ host Harrison will be hosting the songwriter Jesse Anderson Ainslie. Jesse is one of the founding members of Trekky Records and was involved in several Chapel Hill bands/ projects including Castanets, Straight No Chaser, and Barghest before spearheading his current one. And in between his previous endeavors in the local music scene and his current one he moved to NYC for 4-5 years to play with the beloved atmospheric psych- indie- folk band Phosphorescent. In fact he is only freshly re- planted in NC soil and this set will be his first since returning. Jesse will be playing an acoustic set and he doesn't have recordings of himself performing (at least under this project) in that format so the sound will be a bit of a surprise.  Tune in!

Don’t forget about Sports Rap at 9 PM.  Tune in to hear discussion about the NBA Finals and other recent happenings in the world of Sports.

Outside Track’s on Monday at 9 PM.  Tune in for Zahava Seewald & Michael Grebil - From My Mother's House put out by Belgian label Sub Rosa.  Somewhere between an avant-garde opera, audio play, and a sound collage exists this album about (kind of) one womans' loss. It is a story told through field recordings, archival audio, film quotations, Jewish poetry in four languages, spoken word, and instrumental music.
