Hello radio world.  Here’s some notes on how WXYC will be ushering in the month of June, aside from the hiring of some FRESH and NEW DJs:

Start your Sunday afternoon with an episode of Hell or High Water at 1 PM.  This week DJ James F explores more archival radio broadcasts from WPAQ-Mt Airy's "Merry-Go-Round", a live radio show that featured (and continues to feature) some of the best old time and bluegrass musicians from Surry County and surrounding areas.

Tune in Sunday at 2 PM to Broken Music to hear excerpts from a newly remastered and reissued 6 LP box-set "The Kermes Infestation" by Brooklyn noise/electronics/acid-fried improvisation duo Salvatore. Formed by No Neck Blues Band members Jason Meagher and Pat Murano, Salvatore recorded these formless improvisations over a period of three months in 1996 and released a portion of these freaked out sonic exercises as a limited edition three cassette set on their own Sound@1 label. After selling out immediately, these recordings have been rereleased 17 years later by Italian imprint Planam Records. Oscillating soundwise from haunting to hypnotic and featuring guests such as Loren Connors and Dylan Nyoukis, Infestation is not to be missed.

Later that night, catch up with Harrison on the Backyard BBQ at 8 PM as he hosts local musician Josh Moore, an alt- country singer/ songwriter from Carrboro, for some songs and an interview.  Josh Moore plays some beautiful and heartfelt alt-folk songs about heartache, trouble, and redemption roughly in the vein of Songs: Ohia but a bit more optimistic.  Tune in!

Monday’s got the Outisde Track at 9 PM.  This week: Lubomyr Melnyk’s Corollaries, put out by Erased Tapes.Canadian pianist and composer Melnyk developed a meditative performance practice in the 70's and 80's. This practice, characterized by unbroken streams of notes, and the use of sustain pedals, leads to a style of continuous music. For Corollaries, Melnyk pairs with young composer and multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick. A repetitive and glacial progression through a sea of overtones and resonance.

Come back on Wednesday when Should Does Does Radio continues its summer series from 9 to 10 PM.  Should Does is an online literary and arts magazines that publishes the creative works on its staff and other community members.  They are continuing their fun on the radio from the month of April with a 1 hour show every other week that will include more variety than you are ready for.  Tune in for lovely readings, interviews, jokes, audio pieces, and whatever these creative folks have cooked up for the week.
