Did you know that Tim Duncan and I have the same birthday, and that it was yesterday?

Tonight on the Inside Track at 9pm, tune in for Mike Gangloff's new release 'Poplar Hollow' out on Klang. It's the new solo album from Virginia fiddle/banjo player Mike Gangloff, who also plays in Pelt and the Black Twig Pickers. In contrast to the generally raucous dance numbers he plays with the Twigs, the fiddle tunes here (sometimes accompanied by shruti box) are slow, mournful and droney. And the trance-inducing banjo pieces will appeal to fans of Nathan Bowles' 2012 album A Bottle, A Buckeye.

Then keep it locked at 10pm for the NSE with your hosts DJ Yugen and One Duran. Need I say more?

Sunday at 1pm on Hell or High Water, Alex B will be featuring the music of Buck Owens (of Buck Owens and the Buckaroos), a country music artist from Bakersfield, CA. They were famous for originating the "Bakersfield sound", a style involving fingerpicking electric guitars (typically the Fender Telecaster), an emphasized drum beat, prominent fiddle usage, and a pedal steel guitar. The Buckaroos recorded eight top selling albums from 1967-1970 and became only the second country group ever to perform in NYC's Carnegie Hall.

Keep it broken at 2pm on Broken Music, which will feature in its entirety a new set of archival recordings from the Polish electronic/tape music composer/manipulator Zygmunt Krauze. Spatial Music, a new collection on the Polish label Bolt Records, features a recently mastered/mixed version a late 60s magnetic tape manipulation of a 1966 exhibit by Krauze and sculptor Henryk Morel whereby the audience was allowed to use instruments lying around to create sounds that were later compiled by Krauze. After sitting around unused for over 45 years, Krauze revisited them in late 2012 and the result were two 'new' compositions showcasing the depth and range of Krauze's ideas and abilities.

On the Backyard BBQ at 8pm, tune in for interviews with members of two of the loudest, localest bands in the area: Black Skies and Caltrop. The two bands will be sharing a bill at CHUG on Saturday, May 4th, and they just co-released a "cassingle" that is quite worth hearing. Tune in to hear about it, along with your weekly dose of local tunes.

Wind down this Sunday with Should Does Does Radio at 10pm. Tune in as local Chapel Hill-area literary magazine Should Does commemorates the 83rd anniversary of the first night game in baseball history! As part of this commemoration sports will not be discussed at all. However, similarly stirring American triumphs will be broadcast, in the form of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and all things written.

Then tune in Monday night at 9pm for the Outside Track with Rob Mazurek Octet's new release 'Skull Sessions' out on Cuneiform. Cornetist Rob Mazurek is best known around here as 1/2 of the Chicago Underground Duo, but this octet is comprised of members of two of his other groups: Starlicker and Sao Paulo Underground. They create a dense sound - the spacey electronics and driving bass recall Larry Young's group Love Cry Want - highlighted by Mazurek's dazzling, Don Cherry-like cornet runs and some excellent playing from WXYC's favorite vibraphonist, Jason Adasiewicz.
