It's not 100 degrees outside, but don't worry, that doesn't mean that WXYC programming won't go on as usual (or that it will be 100 degrees in a couple of days).

So, if you're not filling in for Blake Griffin on Team USA, you have no reason to not listen to The Inside Track tonight at 9. Tonight we got the comp Fire Star: Synth-Pop & Electro-Funk from Tamil Films 1985-1989 (Bombay Connection) a new compilation of 1980s Tamil film music produced by legendary South Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja, AKA "The Maestro". What would happen if you blended 1980s hip-hop beats with funky cold wave synth instrumentals and sprinkled them with over-the-top Tamil lyrics? Tune in to the Inside Track find out.

Then, on Saturday, parlez-vous xyc? You say Bastille Day, but we say HAPPY WOODY GUTHRIE DAY. Woody was born 100 years ago on this day, so I'm sure you're going to be hearing quite a bit of his music on the radio. Call in and request your personal favorites, please!

Sunday Sunday Sunday Hell or High Water at 1pm will feature archival recordings from Chicago bluesman Arbee Stidham. Born in 1917 in rural Arkansas, Stidham grew up around music, with his father playing guitar for Jimmie Lunsford and his uncle being a prominent member of the Memphis Jug Band. After teaching himself saxophone in his early teens, Stidham formed The Southern Syncopators at age 13 who become Bessie Smith's backing back for two years. In the mid-40s Stidham moved to Chicago where he recorded many singles on RCA Victor, Checker and States (including one #1 hit in 1947). We will listen to lots of his late 40s/early 50s recordings as well as some early 70s recordings featuring Stidham on guitar (which he switched to in the 60s after a car accident injury).

Put the bro back in Broken Music right after at 2pm when we will be listening to some of the more out-there recordings of the late Lol Coxhill. Coxhill, one of the jazz world's preeminent soprano saxophonists,  died this week at the age of 80. He cut his teeth playing with different Canterbury scene groups such as Delivery and Kevin Ayers' post-Soft Machine outfit Kevin Ayers & the Whole World, and, starting in the early 70s, recorded lots of improvisational music both by himself as well as with folks like Derek Bailey, The Damned, Brotherhood of Breath and Mike Oldfield. This particular show will feature, among other pieces, excerpts from a 1980 minimal electronics/sax duet between Coxhill and Mott The Hoople keyboardist Morgan Fisher as well as a sax/cello improvisation between Coxhill and Spontaneous Music Orchestra member Colin Wood.

Local music is local at 8, beats will ride at 10, but in between on Sports Rap at 9pm, the panel this week tackles UNC's 2010 redacted documents (and what it means), USA Olympics (including the 2012 Olympic basketball team and how it stacks up to the '92 Dream Team), Free Agency, along with 2nd half baseball predictions and more. Special guest planned, be sure to tune, call in."

Then on Monday, back to the Inside Track at 9pm with Mark Fosson - Digging in the Dust (Tompkins Square)
Tune in to hear a collection of Fahey-esque solo 12-string guitar songs by Kentuckian Mark Fosson. These home recordings, made in 1976, were demos for an album that was supposed to be released on John Fahey's Takoma label, but didn't see the light of day until 2006. It's a mixture of shorter, piedmont blues inspired fingerpicking and longer, more expansive pieces, and it's all great.

Forever yours,
JJ
