Have you ever turned on the radio in your car only to find out that that other station just played that song you like, but then when you switch to wxyc there's a really awesome program on that you wish somebody had told you about. Well, today, I am that somebody.

First up, tonight (Friday) at 9 on the Inside Track, we got KonKoma's self-titled release. The young British Afro-funk revivalists team up with veteran Ghanaian musicians to revive the sounds of 1970s Ghana. The band includes guitarist Alfred Bannerman, featured on the "Ghana Special" comp with his teenage group Boombaya, and keyboardist/singer Emmanuel Rentzos, formerly of the 70s group Santrofi.

Then, Sunday at 10a on the Orange County Special, Mr. Mikey G himself is going to take you through your weekly three hour workout of traditional and neo-trad jams. In case any of y'all missed Lucero the other night, Mikey's got you, and will play a few choice cuts throughout his set.

At 1pm, Hell or High Water will be a rare album called Music from the Hills of Caldwell County (Physical Records) which features Theopolis Lacey Phillips, Etta Baker, Babe Reid, and other Caldwell County, NC traditional musicians. Jamee E will host.

If it ain't broke, tune in at 2 for Broken Music when Will Vizuete shares his experiences from his recent trip to the Vision Festival in Brooklyn New York.
http://artsforart.org/events/archive/schedule/visionfestival17 The vision festival is a week long event that features music, dance, spoken word performances, visual arts, and panel discussion all in celebration of avant-garde jazz.  This year celebrated the work of Joe Mcphee in various bands featuring New York City's best and brightest jazz artists such as Mathew Shipp, William Parker, Kidd Jordan and Hamid Drake. Come listen while we play and discuss the artists from the festival.

On this Sunday's BYBBQ, I'm previewing the local bands that are playing at next weekend's Buried Underground festival at Chapel Hill Underground. So, I'll be playing MAKE, Bitter Resolve, Irata, Caltrop, Systems, Grohg, Colossus, Fin Fang Foom, and others. I also have a pair of weekend passes to give away during the show.  Tune in at 8p, and BYOearplugs for this one.

Too much rock, not enough sports! That's what 9pm is for. On this week's Sportsrap, the panel analyzes and( /or) wrap up the 2012 NBA Final, along with discussing the BCS's proposed playoff system (along with ifs ramifications on the College Football Scene) and the Roger Clemens court decision, and how it'll affect baseball and the HOF.

Heat the beats on NSE at 10pm for two hours of thoughtful, artful and in youir face live mixing courtesy of Heather W.

Finally, Monday at 9p, the Inside Track  re-ups with Kelan Philip Cohran/Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Another self-titled release, this one features 85-year-old trumpeter Kelan Philip Cohran, a veteran of the Sun Ra Arkestra and a founding member of the AACM, teams up with the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, which happens to include of 8 of his children!

Ra-ra Carolina-lina,
JJ
