KICKIN' GRASS, "Backroads," on the Inside Track, Wednesday 9 p.m.
Formed to back the Apple Chill Cloggers, this local bluegrass act does
original contemporary Carolina bluegrass with traditional roots here on
their debut album with UNC student Kyra Moore on banjo!

ACTUEL RECORDS on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
Started in 1969 by jazz drummer Claude Decloo as a joint project between
French label BYG and Actuel Magazine, ACTUEL RECORDS provided a bizarre
selection of avant garde jazz, modern classical and progressive rock from
some of the largest names of the 1960s and 1970s. The label's catalog
featured both a dazzling selection of the most talented perfomers in
experimental jazz at the time (Don Cherry, Sun Ra, Andrew Cyrille, and
more) and some lesser known talent (Arthur Jones and The Acting Trio).
Furthermore, ACTUEL released albums by groups from the eclectic end of the
progressive rock scene including Freedom and Daevid Allen and electronic
records by Musica Elettronica Viva and Terry Riley. Fairly recently Charly
Records released a 3-cd "greatest hits" collection from the ACTUEL
catalogue, and the Thursday Night Feature this week will explore some of
the remarkable records in greater depth.

COUNTRY MUSIC MILITARY RECRUITING PROGRAMS on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1
p.m.-2 p.m.
This week's Hell or High Water will feature country music radio programs
produced in the 1950s, 60s and 70s for the United States Army, Air Force,
and Navy. Distributed to DJs as a recruitment effort of the armed
services, programs like "Country Style USA," "Navy Hoedown," and
"Hootenavy" featured performances by top artists in country music (Patsy
Cline, George Jones, Lefty Frizell and others) alongside "friendly
messages" from "your local recruiter" and between-song banter. In addition
to playing a handful of these short programs in their entirety, we will
feature a few highlights from other recruitment programs.

Also this week and every week:
-ORANGE COUNTY SPECIAL: traditional and neo-traditional music of the
world, Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
-BROKEN MUSIC: longer, more "difficult" pieces, Sunday 2-3 p.m.
-BACKYARD BARBEQUE: current music from North Carolina's finest, as well as
older records from the region, Sunday 8-9 p.m. On the web at,
http://www.unc.edu/~jenseits/BBQ/BackyardBBQmenu.html
-SPORTS RAP: live UNC sports talk, Sunday 9-10 p.m.
-NEW SCIENCE EXPERIENCE: a live electronic mix, Sunday 10 p.m.-12 a.m.
-THE NEW MUSIC SHOW: spotlight on new releases right out of the mail bin,
Monday 9-10 p.m.
