DEAD MEADOW, "Shivering King and Others" on the Inside Track, Friday 9
p.m.
Fourth album - and the first on Matador - from these Washington,
D.C. stoner dudes who lay down bluesy monster riffs like nobody's
business. Hit it, fellas!

HOODOO REFERENCES IN BLUES MUSIC on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1 p.m.
Blues lyrics provide a primary source of information about the practice of
Hoodoo, an extensive system of African-American folk magic often confused
with the Haitian religion of Voodoo. The topic will be split into two
parts and will rely mainly on blues recordings from the 1920s-30s.
Subjects covered will include: mojo hands and good luck amulets, signs of
bad luck, jinxes, dream divination systems, fortune telling and conjure
work, and other Hoodoo beliefs. Most importantly we will learn about
gambling, revenge, love gone bad, and ways to get ahead in life. Tune in
this week for Part One of Hoodoo References in Blues Music: Gamblers and
Good Luck, followed on August 17, 2003 by Part Two: Fortune Tellers, Black
Gypsies and Magic Spells.

PRIMAL SCREAM, "Screamadelica" on the Classic Inside Track, Sunday 2
p.m.
Produced by legendary acid-house DJ Andrew Weatherall, Bobby
Gillespie and Co. brought Britain's underground rave scene to world wide
attention when they released this album in 1991.

1 MILE NORTH, "Minor Shadows" on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
This Brooklyn duo revel in pure, chilly cinematic ambience a la Labradford
and their predecessors (Popol Vuh, Durutti Column, Twin Peaks) and don't
hold back on the arresting beauty. Ideal for a leisurely Monday evening
bliss-out session. Out on Ba Da Bing! Records.
