Interview with JOHNNY MARR, Thursday evening
Tune in Thursday for an interview with Johnny Marr, guitarist for
legendary '80s British act The Smiths and member of both The The and
Electronic. Marr will be hanging out in the WXYC studios in advance of
a performance with his current band Johnny Marr and the Healers at the
Cat's Cradle in Carrboro Thursday night.

MEET YOU IN THE SUBWAY: San Francisco 1977-1981 on the Thursday Night
Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
This week's Thursday Night Feature covers the San Francisco underground,
from the punk scene nurtured at the club Mabuhay Gardens to new wave and
the avant garde. Punk broke hard in San Francisco much like it did in
L.A., inspiring bands like the Nuns and the Avengers. The Residents and
their label Ralph Records, featuring acts like Tuxedomoon, delved into the
experimental. Many more groups centered around the Bay Area will be
featured, including a history of the scene during the late seventies.

HARLAN HOWARD on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
Responsible for such country standards as "I Fall to Pieces," "Pick Me Up
on Your Way Down," and "Heartaches By the Number," composer Harlan Howard
wrote over 400 songs before his death last year at the age of 73. Ranging
from melancholy ballads to honky-tonk classics, Howard's vast body of work
provided hits for a diverse group of vocalists, including Jim Reeves, Jean
Shepard, Waylon Jennings, Kitty Wells, Buck Owens, Burl Ives, Gram
Parsons, and K.D. Lang. Harlan Howard's contribution to the country music
canon is the focus of this week's Hell or High Water show, Sunday at 1pm.

Friday, 9 p.m.
