JOY ZIPPER, "American Whip" on the Inside Track, Wednesday 9 p.m.
Long Island couple Tabitha Tindale and Vinny Cafiso return with their
second full-length after one on Bar/None. Sunny and dosed pop with
breezy arrangements and a little tongue in the cheek. Out on 13 Amp of the
UK.

FUNKI PORCINI, "Fast Asleep" on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
One of the flagship producers of Ninja Tune's patented brand of
downtempo, James Bradell offers with another dose of spooky, drugged
breaks, orchestral strings, horns and sleepy ambiance.

BIG MAYBELLE on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
Maybelle Louise Smith recorded for the Decca and King labels before R&B
producer Fred Mendelsohn signed her to Okeh in 1952. Christened "Big
Maybelle" by Mendelsohn, she recorded numerous hits for Okeh in the
early 1950s, including a rendition of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On"
two years before Jerry Lee Lewis. After switching to Savoy she cut a
variety of blues, rockin' R&B tunes, and jazz-tinged standards,
providing the label with a number of hits in the late 1950s. Best known
as a blues singer, she had the ability to transform pop songs to suit
her own style. This week Hell or High Water features Big Maybelle's
Okeh and Savoy recordings from the early 1950s through 1957, exploring
her intense vocal style on traditional blues, blistering R&B tunes, and
her versions of pop chestnuts.

BOUBACAR TRAORE, "Je Chanterai pour Toi" on the Inside Track,
Monday 9 p.m.
The soundtrack to Jacque's Sarasin's film from which the record gets its
title, Malian bluesman Troare offers intimate portraits of his life's
travails with the assistance of luminaries like Ali Farka Toure, Rokia
Traore and Ballake Sissoko. Out on Marabi Productions of France.
