WXYC 89.3 FM - in Chapel Hill and live on the Web at www.wxyc.org

Schedule in brief, scroll down for details:
Thursday 9 p.m.: WOMEN JAZZ INSTRUMENTALISTS on the
Thursday Night Feature
Sunday 2-3 p.m.: THE EX, “6” on the Classic Inside Track

WOMEN JAZZ INSTRUMENTALISTS on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday
9 p.m.-midnight
In celebration of Women's History Month, this week's show will
highlight women jazz instrumentalists. Many women are much more
popularly known for their vocal work in jazz music, but the work and
contributions of women instrumentalists often tends to be obscured.
Tune in to hear the sounds of Carla Bley, Alice Coltrane, Mary Lou
Williams, Marion McPartland, Dorothy Ashby, Adele Girard, Hazel Scott,
and Melba Liston, among others. We'll also hear from vocalists
like Blossom Dearie whose instrumental work, though tremendously savvy,
is less renowned than her trademark voice.

THE EX, “6” on the Classic Inside Track, Sunday 2-3 p.m.
This week on the Classic Inside Track we will feature the seminal Dutch
political punk band The Ex and their box set of six singles,
appropriately titled "6". These singles were released bi-monthly
during 1991, and include a broad range of musical styles (hardcore,
electronica, traditional/world, experimental/improv, and comedy!),
involve several outside collaborators (including a Kurdish musician and
a Flemish comedian), and cover numerous political and social topics.
This is a rare and interesting collection of music from an important
and long-standing punk band, so don't miss it!

**SPECIAL NOTICE: Northern Hemisphere Live is on hiatus until the end
of the semester. Tune in from 5-7pm on Sundays for regular programming.
